Ace Epps

Ace Epps was born in Cleveland Ohio in 1970 and later moved to Akron, Ohio where he graduated from Bucthel High School. Active in the community as a poet and visual artist, Ace attended Kent State University from 1990-92 studying Pan African American history, creative writing and commercial art. It was there he was first asked to speak publicly. In 1993 Ace began doing talks and lectures about how art can be therapeutic around campus. He was received well and started to be booked by other social groups, fraternities and religious organizations. While combining poetry with social relevant topics Ace began traveling to other college campuses around the country with a message of social change through the arts. While speaking at a regional poetry venue Ace was recruited to be a facilitator at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. In the late 1990’s Ace spent 2 years facilitating a workshop about the early influences of hip hop and how teachers can use this information to connect with their students more socially. In 2004 Ace took a job at the Oriana House, a local community based correctional facility. There he served as a recruitment assistant and resident supervisor where he worked with mental health, violent and nonviolent ex-offenders as well as dual diagnosed clients. He also became a facilitator for the Thinking for a Change curriculum (T4C). This is an evidenced based program that reduces recidivism by cognitively redirecting the behaviors of each participants. At the Akron Urban League in 2008, Ace served as a Job Developer and a Business Counselor. Ace is a certified facilitator for Ice House Entrepreneur Program . He also hosts a weekly radio show called Center Talks a partnership with WAKR 1590am and the Akron Urban League. On the Pod Bean online platform Ace produces local podcasters while hosting a weekly podcast of his own called Akron Community Voice . Ace has over 14 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector and in 2013 started an LLC called the Self Advancement Center (SAC). It is a shared workspace for artistic emerging entrepreneurs located in the Summit Artspace downtown Akron. At the SAC, Ace teaches job readiness training, soft skills and interviewing techniques. He also providing job placement and business training for would be business owners. Ace Epps is a business counselor who specializes in business creation and entrepreneur mindset development. From 2015 to 2019, Ace served as a Community Manager and Fellowship Director for Akron BMe Community. In 2018, he developed a new workforce development program and curriculum for a local nonprofit organization called OPEN M. Ace currently is the Director of Inclusive Entrepreneurship for an Akron based tech and non tech entrepreneur organization called Bounce innovation Hub.

Andre M. Perry is a fellow in the Metropolitan Policy Program at Brookings, a scholar-in-residence at American University, and a columnist for the Hechinger Report. He is the author of the new book Know Your Price: Valuing Black Lives and Property in America’s Black Cities, which currently available wherever books are sold. A nationally known and respected commentator on race, structural inequality, and education, Perry is a regular contributor to MSNBC and has been published by The New York Times, The Nation, The Washington Post, TheRoot.com and CNN.com. Perry has also made appearances on CNN, PBS, National Public Radio, NBC, and ABC. His research focuses on race and structural inequality, education, and economic inclusion. Perry’s recent scholarship at Brookings has analyzed Black-majority cities and institutions in America, focusing on valuable assets worthy of increased investment. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Perry earned his Ph.D. in education policy and leadership from the University of Maryland College Park.

Her son one of the plaintiffs in the case changed history winning the Historical Landmark Decision on April 23, 2020. The unfinished business of Brown vs Board of Education. The state of Michigan failed to provide her son and Detroit students with the most fundamental of skills: the ability to read. Now that children have a constitutional right to literacy, it is a remarkable victory for her son and Detroit students. In 2018 Asia Hamilton opened Norwest Gallery of Art, a community based contemporary art museum that focuses on art from the African Diaspora. As founder and director, Asia chose to locate the Norwest Gallery of Art in the historic Grandmont Rosedale neighborhood of Detroit because the community had been overlooked in recent revitalization efforts that focused primarily on the downtown region. Asia also lives and grew up in the area where the gallery is, hence she understands as a resident, artist, and business owner the importance of art and culture in providing viable, vibrant, walkable communities to advance the people.  The gallery has turned the neighborhood into an international hub for contemporary art with plans to expand its efforts as a staple for creative arts and culture in the community. As a founder, director, and chief curator of the Norwest Gallery, Asia has curated 85% of the exhibitions. Most of which allow herself and other black artists the platform to professionally exhibit their work with no filter. Accomplishments and accolades are no stranger to Brandon Frame, but what makes him extraordinary is the humility and servant-leadership that marks his life. Brandon Frame is the Deputy Director of Social Emotional Learning at The Urban Assembly where he leads a portfolio of schools to build the capacity of the staff in implementing and sustaining Social Emotional Learning. Under his tenure as a leader of the UA’s Resilient Scholars Program, participating schools saw dramatic reductions in suspensions and improvements in school culture, and the program expanded nationally to states like Texas, Virginia, and California. Brandon is also Co-Founder of the award-winning twitter chat #hiphoped and the Author of Define Yourself, Redefine the World: A Guided Journal for Boys and Men of color and the children’s book My First Tie. Chase L. Cantrell is the Executive Director of Building Community Value (BCV). In this role, he leads a diverse team of experts in implementing BCV’s training, technical assistance, and consulting programs. Chase is a critical voice in Detroit’s policy making and revitalization efforts, playing a crucial role as an advocate for residents who work hard to restore and improve the physical infrastructure of Detroit’s neighborhoods. Observing a gap in Detroit’s real estate ecosystem, Chase founded BCV as a bridge between the resources accessible to traditional real estate actors and Detroit residents and nonprofits who wish to make a positive impact within their communities. He is active in all aspects of the organization’s service offerings and has provided direct consulting support to local community development organizations. He has positioned the organization to be laser-focused on providing meaningful technical assistance to small-scale developers. Prior to founding BCV, Chase served as a Detroit-based transactional attorney at Dykema Gossett and Kotz Sangster. He built his career helping companies of all sizes (from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies) in matters related to real estate and corporate law. He is still a licensed member of the State Bar of Michigan and a member of the ACLU Lawyers Committee for Wayne County, Michigan. DeJuan PATTERSON is a business strategist, public servant, and community organizer from Baltimore City. He received his Bachelor’s in Psychology and his Master of Public Administration in Public Policy from Bowie State University. He is currently the Managing Partner of The BeMore Group: a company dedicated to providing services and solutions to issues surrounding youth, families, and underserved communities. Patterson and his work have been featured in The Baltimore Sun, The Washington Post, Elite Daily, The Baltimore Afro and CBS News. Patterson deems himself a social impact consultant for the city, where he uses his gifts of strategic planning and economic development as channels to highlight and solve the challenges in the community. Using his 2-tier approach, Patterson first focuses on community engagement: developing and implementing programs for youth and families, as well as identifying key resources to allocate to these groups. He then takes the successful results of his community engagement to concentrate on institutional advisement, where he advises agencies on how to best distribute their time and resources to the groups that need it most. Patterson’s institutional advisement tier includes sitting on advisory boards, program evaluation and development, and product delivery. As a result, he has been granted several opportunities from Baltimore City Hall to Capitol Hill to consult with various stakeholders on developing progressive solutions for socio-economic equity and criminal justice reform.
