Today, DK is head of several organizations. He is founder of Detroit Father, promoting awareness of the Black fatherhood narrative, co-founder of Joining Forces with King, an initiative to develop a safe environment and motivate narrative change regarding Black men in Detroit, and founded Detroit Social Circle, a safe place that brings different communities and cultures together to drive transformational social impacts. Whether it is adding baby-changing stations to local, public men’s restrooms or advocating for national fatherhood education programs and equitable policies, DK is always striving to foster equality and inclusion and takes every opportunity he can to influence others to be on the side of community improvement. Damon is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist-Family (CCTS-F). He is the founder and President of the Minority Mental Health Project and works at Jefferson County Public Schools as a Mental Health Practioner. He specializes in working with high-risk populations, children, adolescents, individuals, couples, and families. The mission of the MMHP is to educate and empower individuals, families, and communities towards positive change by providing a range of culturally sensitive behavioral, mental health prevention, and intervention services. He has dedicated a major portion of his life to the well-being of his community through volunteerism, application of therapeutic skills. He continually seeks to better the community through individual personal efforts. Daniel Lavelle

Councilman Daniel Lavelle is from Pittsburgh, PA He graduated from Schenley High School. He earned his B.S.from Kent State University in 2000. In 2002, he completed the Leadership Pittsburgh program. In 2014 Councilman Lavelle was a Marshall Memorial Fellow of the German Marshall Fund. Councilman Lavelle was sworn into office in 2010. Councilman Lavelle has chaired the Land Use and Economic Development Committee and Public Safety Committee. He now chairs Finance and Law. He also is the Treasurer for the Urban Redevelopment Authority. Councilman Lavelle is a leader on economic and social justice issues. He has sponsored legislation including: The Responsible Banking Act; Decriminalization of Marijuana; zoning for a new Local Economic Revitalization Tax District; and the Housing Opportunity Fund, funded at $10 million per year. In 2019, Councilman Lavelle centered his policy work on equity. Sponsored bills include: an Ordinance to add equity reporting requirements of Department Directors; a Resolution Establishing an Equity and Inclusion Implementation Team; and a Resolution Declaring Racism in the City of Pittsburgh a Public Health Crisis. In 2016, Councilman Lavelle was a featured speaker at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He presented at a two-part program entitled Gentrification By Design: Shaping Neighborhood Change. Councilman Lavelle has received numerous awards including Pittsburgh’s 50 Finest, Pittsburgh’s 40 Under 40, the NAACP Bill Lynch Political Courage Award and was a 2018 BMe Genius Fellow. He is married to Rachel Lavelle and are proud parents of daughter and son, Saniya and Elijah.

Darryl Young Jr. is the Manager of Programming at the Muhammad Ali Center, where he is tasked with overseeing youth initiatives, cultivating strategic community partnerships, and producing innovative programming. He is an active member of the Louisville community as a concerned citizen, advocate, and most proudly, community organizer. Darryl is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated and is currently President of the Epsilon Beta Sigma chapter in Louisville. He is also heavily involved in the Cities United Initiative and the National Black Male Achievement movement, working closely with the Campaign for Black Male Achievement. Mr. Young is a Past President and Co-Founder of the Associate Board of Directors of the Nativity Academy of St. Boniface, the Co-Chair of the One Love Louisville Initiative, and a Co-Facilitator of the Racial Healers Training through the Cabinet for Child Protective Services. He is a former member of the grassroots community organization, Network Center for Community Change. He is a 2014 Who’s Who Louisville: African American Profiles Honoree. Darryl is a proud alum of the University of Louisville, class of 2012, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education.

Darryle Buchanan

Darryle J. Buchanan is a tireless advocate for youth and community development. He is the former Director of The Obama Foundation’s, My Brother’s Keeper Initiative for the state of Michigan. He proudly served as President of the Southfield Board of Education, of which he was a trustee from 2005 – 2014. He diligently serves as a mentor for students who are in the greatest need of compassion and understanding and he has been instrumental in involving fellow members of the community in this endeavor. He co-founded a non-profit organization, Transition Basketball of Michigan, using players’ love of athletics to inspire them to achieve success in other areas of their lives. As a result of participating in this program, many young men have received athletic and academic scholarships, networked with business and community leaders, and have been motivated to attain higher levels of academic and personal accomplishment. He has also served as vice president of the Michigan Association of School Boards’ Board of Directors (MASB). Currently Mr. Buchanan serves as boys varsity head basketball coach at Southfield Arts & Technology High School. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, he is a proud graduate of St. Martin de Porres High School and completed his undergraduate studies at Wayne State University where he is currently pursuing his M.Ed. He is married to his wife of 34 years and they are the parents of two college educated adult sons.

DeJuan PATTERSON is a business strategist, public servant, and community organizer from Baltimore City. He received his Bachelor’s in Psychology and his Master of Public Administration in Public Policy from Bowie State University. He is currently the Managing Partner of The BeMore Group: a company dedicated to providing services and solutions to issues surrounding youth, families, and underserved communities. Patterson and his work have been featured in The Baltimore Sun, The Washington Post, Elite Daily, The Baltimore Afro and CBS News. Patterson deems himself a social impact consultant for the city, where he uses his gifts of strategic planning and economic development as channels to highlight and solve the challenges in the community. Using his 2-tier approach, Patterson first focuses on community engagement: developing and implementing programs for youth and families, as well as identifying key resources to allocate to these groups. He then takes the successful results of his community engagement to concentrate on institutional advisement, where he advises agencies on how to best distribute their time and resources to the groups that need it most. Patterson’s institutional advisement tier includes sitting on advisory boards, program evaluation and development, and product delivery. As a result, he has been granted several opportunities from Baltimore City Hall to Capitol Hill to consult with various stakeholders on developing progressive solutions for socio-economic equity and criminal justice reform.
